Adult Skate
The Adult Skate program follows the same skill progressions as the CanSkate program, but in a more structured format. Adult skaters may have taken skating lessons in their youth but not been on skates for some time, or may never have learned to skate. An adult skater may just want to improve their skating skills in a safer, more structured environment with a Professional Coach rather than at public skating.Adult skaters do not have to complete all CanSkate levels before moving into Private STARskate OR Adult CanPower lessons, please consult your Coach if you have any questions regarding Freeskate, Dance, Skills or CanPower.
Lesson Structure
Adult Skate focuses on the development of seven stages of learning. The skills are arranged in progressions, from very simple to the more complex with each stage having a primary focus (Balance, Go Forwards). Once the skills in each stage have been mastered, a badge is awarded for the hard work they have done. The length of the lesson is 45 minutes and we offer private & semi-private lessons in addition to group lessons.Stage 1 - Balance
Stage 2 - Glide Forwards
Stage 3 - Glide Backwards
Stage 4 - Edges
Stage 5 - Power
Stage 6 - Speed
Stage 7 - Spin, Spiral, Jump
Dress & Equipment Code
For Adult Skate we recommend that you purchase single bladed, leather lace up skates rather than the moulded skates. They can be figure or hockey skate style. CSA approved hockey or skating helmets are suggested but not mandatory if you are over the age of 18 years old. No bicycle helmets, trailing scarves, elbow or knee pads required. When purchasing new or used skates, please make sure to sharpen them as they DO NOT come sharpened.Recommended Skate Shops
United Cycle: 10323 - 78 AvenuePro Skate: 16972 - 111 Avenue or 9212 - 51 Avenue
Please purchase and sharpen skates only at these shops as they are trained professionals that will properly fit your skaters with the proper skates.
