The Facts:
AGES: 5 years & Up
LESSON LENGTH: 45 minutes X 1 day a week
GROUP SIZE: 1 Coach: 10 skaters + Program Assistant
MANDATORY YEAR END ICE SHOW: Confederation Arena – Sunday March 18, 2012
NOTE: Parents are NOT allowed on the ice at anytime. Please have your skater at the gate & we will have someone help them to the appropriate class.
- We offer private & semi private lessons in addition to group lessons.
STRUCTURE: CanSkate focuses on the development of seven stages of learning. The skills are arranged in progressions, from very simple to the more complex with each stage having a primary focus Balance, Go Forwards, etc. Once the skills in each stage have been mastered, a badge is awarded for the hard work they have done. We offer private & semi-private lessons in addition to group lessons for this level.
Badges to achieve are:
Stage 2 - Glide Forwards
Stage 3 - Glide Backwards
Stage 5 - Power
Stage 7 - Spin, Spiral, Jump
PROPER SKATING ATTIRE & EQUIPMENT: We recommend that you purchase:
* Single bladed, leather lace up skates rather than the moulded skates. Figure or hockey skates.
* DO NOT purchase the style of skates that have one or two straps instead of the laces
* CSA approved hockey or skating helmets are MANDATORY.
* No bicycle helmets, trailing scarves, elbow or knee pads required.
* When purchasing new or used skates, please make sure to sharpen them as they DO NOT come sharpened.
* Make sure skaters go to the bathroom before class time.
* Wear snow pants, jacket & gloves. REMEMBER that it is cool in the arena but as they move around they will warm up. No jeans as this restricts movement.
