STRUCTURE: Group STARSkate offers opportunities for skaters to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of Ice Dance, Skating Skills, Freeskate, Interpretive Expression and Stroking. This program teaches figure skating skills in a progressive and sequential manner and includes specifically designed awards and incentives. Skaters have the opportunity to take Skate Canada Tests through a nationally standardized testing system and the opportunity to participate in local competitions such as FUNMEETS. This is for skaters who have NOT passed any preliminary tests but has passed Stage 4 of the CanSkate program. Skaters learn the relationship between their body movements and edges as they learn how to this will affect all aspects of the skating fundamentals. This a non-competitive program that will enhance the skills the skaters have mastered in the CanSkate program. Group STARskate also teaches the skaters discipline and gets them ready to enter into the private or semi-private sector.
