Pre-CanSkate

This fun-on-ice program provides skating instruction for skaters ages 3 - 4 years old in a small group setting. This program is to help these young skaters learn to interact with other kids and learn basic skating skills. The group will consist of 6-8 skaters with the help of our trained Program Assistants. Parents are NOT allowed on the ice at anytime.

This is not an ongoing programming option, once the skills have been mastered or they reach the age of 5 years old the skater will move on to the CanSkate program. Occasionally, very young children do not respond to "group instruction" and it may be recommended by the Coach that they be withdrawn from the class and try again at a later date.

Lesson Structure

Pre-CanSkate is focused on the development of standing, balancing and gliding forwards in an interactive & fun environment. The skills are learned through games and interactive activities. The length of the lesson is 30 minutes.

Dress & Equipment Code

For Pre-CanSkate we recommend that you purchase single bladed, leather lace up skates rather than the moulded skates. DO NOT purchase the style of skates that have one or two straps instead of the laces or double bladed bobbin skates. CSA approved hockey or skating helmets are MANDATORY. No bicycle helmets, trailing scarves, elbow or knee pads required. When purchasing new or used skates, please make sure to sharpen them as they DO NOT come sharpened.

Recommended Skate Shops

United Cycle: 10323 - 78 Avenue
Pro Skate: 16972 - 111 Avenue or 9212 - 51 Avenue
Please purchase and sharpen skates only at these shops as they are trained professionals that will properly fit your skaters with the proper skates.
